Buttresses
Prescribed - patients that need aggressive stability to the outside of the foot (Lateral) or to the inside of the foot (Medial). Visible sign, footwear collapsing to one side because of foot rolling over. Possible causes include tendon failure, neropathic causes (brain injury), stroke, or charcot foot (Charcot neuropathy is a progressive deterioration of weight bearing joints,usually in the foot or ankle).
Function - Stabilizes the patient foot, improves balance.
Goal - stop severe lateral and medial joint deterioration. Halts excessive wear and breaking down of footwear.
